Developers will be excited to know that Google is allowing all interested parties in on their mobile phone action.

Google’s Android is a wireless mobile software platform that is Linux-based. The Android wireless software platform is meant to speed download times and improve the experience through better software. As a visual tool, the Android powered mobile phones are designed to provide Internet surfing episodes that are not as unwieldy as now.

The Internet, Google And Mobile Phones

You can do some decent research on the fly when you need it with the Android powered mobile phones. Imagine that you can find out the nearest restaurant or the best recipe from wherever you are located. Google expects that more people will try the mobile phones out and discover the ease and capability that the phone offers for decent Internet experiences.

Although only the software platform and prototypes phones were on display this week, a rumored Gphone is supposedly in the works. Google representatives will only say that when a Google product is ready for release; then it will be released. Android chip phones may be on sale later this year.

The first mobile phones fitted with the Android software were unveiled on February 11, 2008, at an industry trade show in Barcelona. Prototypes, from chipmaker Texas Instruments, Qualcomm, ARM, Marvell and ST Microelectrics, were on display. The viewing screen on the prototypes handsets is better than much of what is currently available on many mobile phones.

The Texas Instrument Prototype

The Texas Instrument Android prototype handset does not look so much like a phone as it does resemble a calculator. The smooth light grey surface looks just like Texas calculator. This calculator look and feel gives the tool a familiar and easy to use interface. At the bottom third of the phone, there are 4 rows of keyboard plus a long key spacebar.

The simple and self-explanatory phone buttons sit above the keyboard and beneath the screen. The lovely screen above the keyboard has a clean look while the small space around it has been used sparingly. The screen takes up just less than half the length of the Texas prototype handset, which was about 5 inches in height by a 2 inch width. The user interface is designed to perform in an amazingly fast and easy way.

Open Source Announcement

Google also reported that within a week’s time of the Barcelona mobile phone trade show, the mobile software platform would become open source and available for anyone to use. The company has made room for third party developers, who want to distribute their own applications and content, to come along for the ride through Google’s hosted services. Developers can add their own applications over or change the open source software. In this way, the Android software will work its way into becoming the standard operating system for mobile phones.

It is fair to say that when Google wants to improve the Internet experience on mobile phones by improving the download speed, appearance and software, Google will probably get what it wants and with fantastic results. The wireless world of mobile phones will be taking a faster step forward soon.
